O’Reilly Auto Parts midseason championship saw intense racing and a fast track with double points on the line for the Race to The Championship presented by O’Reilly Auto Parts.
The Glass House Super Stocks would be the first feature on the track. Defending champion Braden Tucke would start on the pole with Kyle Moore on his outside in the Fred Snyder owned 77. They would battle side by side into turn one and two. As they came to complete lap one Moore would get the clear lead over the 18. Doug Drown would run in 3rd trying to track down the 18 car. Drown would stay within three tenths of a second behind the 18. The field would spread out and run green to checkered to give Moore his second street stock win of the season. In victory lane Moore had mentioned that he was not originally planned to be driving the 77.
The Pine Tree Towing & Recovery sprint cars would start with 2023 champion Tyler Gunn on the pole with current points runner up in second. At the drop of the green Gunn would open up his lead. Jordan Ryan would get underneath the 8 of Phillips and take over second from the Findlay Ohio native. Lap 3 would see the first Bucks Auto Sales Yellow Flag as Ryan Fredricks would come to a stop. At the restart Gunn would continue his dominate run. Henry Malcuit would make a charge to third in the family owned 70 car. On lap 5 another yellow would fly for the points leader Leyton Wagner in the 38 car. He would call it an evening after that. Back at the restart Gunn would still lead. Malcuit had the third spot but had a very fast Australian with Brock Hallet right behind him. Hallet and Malcuit would thrown down lap after lap. Tyler Gunn would show the way around the 3/8 mile oval as he would hit lap traffic. Jordan Ryan would try and use this to his advantage to close the gap behind Tyler Gunn. Gun would continue to hit his marks to keep his lead alive. 5 laps left to would see another Yellow Flag for a spinning Shawn Hubler. Gunn would continue to lead this one. With the checkers set to fly Gunn was ready to celebrate until a yellow would come out on the last lap for the 56R spinning around lining up a one lap dash. The field would line back up and prepare for a war. Gunn would show the field through 1&2. Third place running Brock Hallet would clip the berm and somehow keep that car on all 4 wheels. At the line Tyler Gunn would bring home the win. Joran Ryan 2nd and Henry Malcuit a 3rd.
The Malcuit Tavern UMP Late Models would come up next. An opening night rematch would take place with Kyle Moore and Doug Drown on the front row. Off the start Moore would show an early lead over Drown. Ryan Markham and JR Gentry would battle for 3rd. Moore would show the way through the first 5 laps. The first yellow would fly at lap 5 for a spinning Dyaln Spears. Under the yellow Drown would lose power steering and unfortunately call it a night. On the restart Gentry would take a look to the bottom of Moore but Kyle would get back around him. Moore would continue to lead the charge until another yellow would fly at lap 13. The restart would see Markham and Gentry start battling for second. They would exchange slide jobs for the 4 laps as Moore would pull away from the pair up to the next yellow. Under the restart everything would fire as usual. Moore would pull away with the lead and Markham and Gentry would battle for second. At the end of it all Moore would win the feature with Markham and Gentry coming home second and third respectively.
Round number one of the Henthorn Golf Cart Sales King of The County would kick off for the Joyride Transport Mini Stocks. Front row saw Travis Hutton in the 89 and Josh Rameriez in the F7. As the field rolled out your runner up in points Doug Hensel would be unable to fire. Hensel would be unable to start the feature. At the start of the feature Ramirez would launch out in front in his F7 Dodge Neon. Points leader Anthony Collins would settle in the second spot. Ramirez would show the way around Wayne County with Collins glued on his back bumper. Collins looked high and low but was unable to pass Ramirez in the early stages of this one. Mitch Reichard would hold onto 3rd. The lead pair would reach lap traffic. Collins would tag the back bumper of Robert Searls and send Searls 419 around to bring out the first Bucks Auto Sales yellow Flag. At the restart Collins would get the restart he needed to pull away from the F7. Ramirez would try and get past by Collins 71 machine. Red flag would fly with three laps left due to Ryan Carter having a small fire under the hood of the 3c. He would climb out okay. At the restart Reichard would get by Ramirez. Anthony Collins would go on to win his third feature of the season. Mitch Reichard in second and Josh Ramirez in 3rd.
The Flynn’s Tire & Auto Service UMP Modifieds would hit the track last this evening. Daniel Sanchez, fresh off a win at Limaland would take the pole. Mason Canter to his Outside. Sanchez would show an early lead off the start. Vinni DePizzo and Ryan Markham would battle for 3rd exchanging sliders early on. At lap 5 we would see our first Bucks Auto Sales Yellow for the event as Mitch Caskey would spin around. A couple of other spins would bring out some yellow flags before we would see Green Flag racing again. Sanchez still showed the way as Jimmy Humphrey would take off to second place until a lap 8 caution. Lap 9 would see a red flag as Casey Butler clips the berm in turn 3. He would slide back in front of traffic. Jesse Griffits tried to avoid the 99 but would slide into the side of him. Both drivers would be okay. Back underway again Ryan Markham would now give Humphrey a run for second. Markham would eventually pass the 60 of Humphrey and set his sights on Sanchez. Markham would get to the back bumper of Sanchez but was unsuccessful in passing him at the Checkers. Sanchez would get 1st, Markham 2nd, and Jimmy Humphrey 3rd.
Orville’s Historic Oval will see action once again on Monday June 10th for Ohio Sprint Speedweek. Aaron Fry and The TI22 Performance FAST Series look to finally make their first appearance at WCS in 2024. They will be joined by the open 305 sprint cars.
